چکیده
1. General introduction, Birkhoff’s Ergodic Theorem vs. Ratner’s Theorems on unipotent flows; measure classification implies classification of orbit closures; uniform convergence and the theorem of Dani-Margulis; the statement of the Oppenheim Conjecture. 2. The case of SL(2, R) (the mixing argument). We will be loosely following Ratner’s paper [18]. 3. The classification of invariant measures for the action of a unipotent subgroup of SL(2, R) n R (modulo non-divergence). 4. Quantitative non-divergence of unipotent flows and quasi-polynomial maps: the case of SL(2, R). 5. Quantitative non-divergence in higher rank. 6. Oppenheim and Quantitative Oppenheim (lower bounds). The work of Dani-Margulis [2]. 7. Quantitative Oppenheim (upper bounds) [4]. Systems of inequalities. 8. The work of Mozes-Shah [17] (limits of ergodic measures are ergodic). 9. Equidistribution of translates and applications to Diophantine equations. We will follow parts of [6] and [7]. 10. Equidistribution of translates and applications to improvement of Dirichlet’s Theorem [12, 14]. 11-12. Applications of non-divergence to metric Diophantine approximation: Baker-Sprindžuk Conjectures and their generalizations, Diophantine exponents of affine subspaces [9, 10, 11]. 13. Counting problems with billiards (slightly off-topic). 14. The work of Margulis-Goetze on quadratic forms. 15. If time allows: an overflow lecture. Possibly Oppenheim in signature (2, 2) and applications to quantum chaos.

Material Development and English for Academic Purposes Word Lists; a Reductionist Approach
Nagy (1988) states that vocabulary is a prerequisite factor in comprehension. Drawing upon a reductionist approach and having in mind the prospects for material development, this study aimed at creating an English for Academic Purposes Word List (EAPWL). The corpus of this study was compiled from a corpus containing 6479 pages of texts, 2,081,678 million tokens (running words) and 63825 types (...
متن کاملThe Effect of Negotiated Syllabus on the Reading Comprehension of ESP Students
Negotiated syllabus addresses learners‟ needs and assists them in developing their own on-going syl- labus through shared decision-making in the classroom. Many studies focus on the effect of this learner-centered syllabus on language learning. However, few studies exist on its effect on the reading ability of language learners, especially in the area of English for specific ...
متن کاملThe Effects of Negotiated Syllabus on Iranian EFL Learners’ speaking fluency and Self-efficacy
The history of pedagogy and education shows that syllabus has always had a crucial role in the success of every course. Nowadays, the course designers allocate an especial room for learners’ needs which are continuously changing in an expanding world. This demands a new vision in education through cooperation with others via negotiation for syllabus. Although a great body of research has been c...

This course states, motivates, and offers detailed support to the observation that cognition is fundamentally a computational process [28]. Students are introduced to a number of conceptual tools for thinking about cognitive information processing, including statistical learning from experience and the use of patterns distilled from past experience in guiding future actions. The application of ...
